Ladders

A ladder is a collective set of steps, linked vertically via two horizontal rods. These steps are called rungs and the rods supporting them are called stiles. A ladder is commonly used for climbing at home or at work. There are two types of ladders -- rigid or hard material ladders and rope ladders. Rigid ladders are generally portable, but are sometimes fixed permanently to buildings or structures.

Ladders come in variety of styles and heights. They can either be rented or purchased. Styles include stool, foldable and single length ladders. Each ladder has a defined weight that it can support and come in a choice of materials like aluminum, fiberglass, steel, wood and iron. Fiberglass ladders are the strongest and most durable.

Although a bit heavier than aluminum, they do not present any risk while doing electrical work.

Rigid ladders serve a lot of purposes. They are used for attics, pools, docks, libraries, shops, etc. They are available in many styles. Besides the simple and straight fixed ladder, an extension ladder is also useful.

It is divided into parts that are easily foldable or expandable to provide double the height. The stepladder is an inverted v shape and fixed from the center. Platform stepladders are a refinement of stepladders, since they have a comfortable horizontal platform at the top. Telescopic ladders are a great invention. The stiles of this type of ladder can slide inside each other for minimum storage.

Ladders with a hook at the top provided for better grip are called roof ladders and hook ladders. Rope ladders are useful where storage space is very limited, or the weight has to be kept to a minimum.
Rope ladders come with rigid or flexible rungs. It requires specialized skill to climb a rope ladder, since it tends to swing freely like a pendulum and is not stationary.

It is advisable to take precautions while climbing a ladder. The ladder should be placed at a calculated distance from the wall on which it is leaning.

It is recommended that for best stability, this distance from the bottom of the ladder should be one quarter of the height of the ladder. It is a good practice to use ladder stabilizers. They enhance the ladder's grip on the ground surface. To avoid unnecessary falls from the ladders, one must place it properly and wear clothes that will not get in the way of stepping. Ladders can be found in hardware shops or on the Internet..

Boat Docks

If a person has waterfront property, "boat docks" are a great addition.
A boat dock, available in varying sizes and shapes, is a place to moor a boat and provides easy leisure access for swimming and fishing. There are aluminum docks, steel docks, floating docks and post docks. These classifications depend on materials and style that are used to build the docks. All are designed to offer the best that one could possibly expect in a wet and dry storage facility.

Many accessories, which make it fun and functional, can be seen alongside a dock. Among the accessories are benches, boarding ramps, bumpers, cleats, boat lifts, deep water braces, dock boxes, flagpole holders, handrails, swing and straight ladders, light brackets, shore end wheel kits and storage sheds.

There are a variety of choices in residential lake dock and commercial dock systems. The residential dock is built to fit the location and recreational needs of a customer. Private or...

I Want a Cold!

"Honey, can I have a cup of lemon tea," my wife asked me the other day. Normally, my wife doesn't ask me to do anything, knowing my laziness has no bounds. But my wife had a cold - a very bad cold. For most illnesses, my wife would just "suck it up" and get her cute little behind out of bed, fully realizing that nothing would get done around the house without her. But today, she was lingering beneath the bed covers.

That's how I knew she was really sick.My wife is tougher than Randall "Tex" Cobb on his best day (and for those of you who don't know who Randall "Tex" Cobb is - shame on you!). Her finely developed sense of martyrdom compels her to force herself into activity, even in the face of the killer cold. Being the caring husband that I am (and not wanting her germs spread through the entire house), I suggested she stay in bed.So, even though it was a Sunday, which is a very inconvenient day for her to be sick (because I usually park my large, ugly behind on my favorite chair...

Need Storage or Work Space? Consider a Utility Shed.

Whether you just have lots of miscellaneous stuff to store or you need room for a specific purpose, the range of utility sheds on the market provides a valuable addition to your living space.

We all tend to gather up belongings as we live our lives; hand and power tools, ladders, painting supplies, and so on accumulate along with the list of home improvement projects we tackle. Sporting goods like bicycles, kayaks, fishing rods, tennis rackets, and exercise equipment go in and out of use, and need to be stored, hopefully out of the way, when we're not using them. Woodworkers and gardeners need space they can devote to their hobbies.

Luckily, a wide variety of preconstructed and build-it-yourself utility sheds can meet our storage and avocational needs. From giant plastic Rubbermaid sheds to beautifully designed wooden structures mimicking home designs to assemble-it-yourself kits, these sheds offer many...

Pool Ladders

Pool ladders are installed in almost all swimming pools. They are used to climb in and out of the pool. There is a wide collection of ladders available for both in-ground and aboveground pools. They are available in aluminum, white vinyl, structural plastic, resin and stainless steel materials. Color choice does not vary much, since painting them is not viable.

Some of them are lined with anti-skid material to avoid slips and falls. They come with easy assembling techniques and provide a few years warranty. They are available with outdoor equipment suppliers, hardware stores, pool accessories suppliers and on the Internet.

For in ground pools, ladders generally have 2-5 steps going towards the deck. The ladders could have a platform or could just land straight on the deck. The height and shape of the ladder should be compatible to your pool.

Various types of ladders suitable to vinyl liner pools and concrete and fiberglass pools can be found. They need to be...
