Though wood blinds and shutters are the most popular window coverings sold in America, these two products are among the most expensive. Faux wood Blinds offer nature's rich, subtle colors and unique textures at a fraction of the cost of real wood shutters. Moreover, wood does not last long in high moisture areas. Manufacturers have introduced quality alternatives to wood blinds in the form of faux wood blinds.
Faux wood blinds are made of vinyl, vinyl compounds, and a combination of wood and vinyl. The wood look-alikes are either a wood-polymer mix or 100-percent polymer.
Since these use vinyl for at least a portion of their slats they have two inherent advantages to wood blinds: they cost less, and they resist moisture.
All of the faux wood blinds require more ladders than wood blinds. The sturdier the blind, the farther apart the ladders can be placed and therefore will require fewer ladders.
Many interior designers favor faux wood blinds because they are easy to clean, an advantage in a kitchen, and they don't warp, fade or crack, a great advantage in a room with high humidity such as a bathroom.
Faux wood blinds control light and privacy as effectively as wood blinds, yet they're made of polymer which makes them sturdy, resistant to moisture, easy to clean and impervious to warping, cracking or peeling. They're also energy efficient, to keep your home warmer in winter, cooler in summer..

Fighting Fires at Work
Copyright 2006 Marshall House
Out in the forest or in our neighborhood, we recognize a firefighter rather easily: a heavily-clad person, holding a fire hose, walking up or down a ladder, or performing some other tasks that reduce or end a conflagration.
Managers, consultants, and others are often expected to be "fire fighters." Here we do not wear hip boots ? although, come to think of it, this is a rather nifty idea. The water we apply to the fire is taken from our pool of resources and skills. We use ladders to reach our goals and comprehend the hierarchy. Fire fighting in organizations usually means solving crisis problems or calming interpersonal flare ups.
As a customer, I recently had a series of problems (fires) while working with a plant manager in a small company. I tried all the strategies I know as a consultant and manager and conflict mediator.
I even resorted to complaining about him to his secretary ? I shamelessly admit that...

Ladders
A ladder is a collective set of steps, linked vertically via two horizontal rods. These steps are called rungs and the rods supporting them are called stiles. A ladder is commonly used for climbing at home or at work. There are two types of ladders -- rigid or hard material ladders and rope ladders. Rigid ladders are generally portable, but are sometimes fixed permanently to buildings or structures.
Ladders come in variety of styles and heights. They can either be rented or purchased. Styles include stool, foldable and single length ladders. Each ladder has a defined weight that it can support and come in a choice of materials like aluminum, fiberglass, steel, wood and iron. Fiberglass ladders are the strongest and most durable.
Although a bit heavier than aluminum, they do not present any risk while doing electrical work.
Rigid ladders serve a lot of purposes. They are used for attics, pools, docks, libraries, shops, etc. They are available...
How to Modify Your Landscaping to Protect Your House from Burglars
Believe it or not, landscaping can be an important part of a good home security plan. A burglar who is "casing the joint" from the street will choose the house with tall shrubs and trees that provide hiding places. Homes with little or no outdoor lighting are preferred targets as well. So, how can you landscape to protect against burglars while still creating an aesthetically pleasing yard? Here are a few tips:You don't need to eliminate trees, but keep them trimmed back from your house; tree branches can be used as a ladder if they are next to a window or skylight.Mow your lawn regularly; an unkempt lawn can suggest to a thief that the owners are away on a trip.Store ladders, lawn chairs, and picnic tables out of sight lest they be used as a means to reach high windows.Trim back shrubs growing near doors and walkways, keeping them 3 feet or shorter in height. Also, don't allow shrubs to block any of your windows.Adding gravel under windows makes for noisy footing for would-be thieves.Consider...
